Care after Birth

Care of mother and her baby need in initial days after delivery.

1. Postnatal environment

Kept room warm 25 degree celsius

Room-in (kept mother child together)

2. Everyday care of baby

Brestfeeding

Warmth

Cord care

3. Looking for danger sign and giving treatment

Not feeding well

No movement

Fast breathing >60 breaths/minutes

Jaundice on day 1 or palm or sole stained yellow

Fever >37.5 degree Celsius

Hypothermia <36.5 degree Celsius; not raising after rewarming

4. Preparation for discharge

Ensure immunization

Advice on Essential care for Neonate at Discharge

1. Feed breast milk ( at least 8 times in 24 hours)

2. Keep cord stump clean, not apply anything

3. Keep warm

Encourage KMC for low birth weight baby.

4. Counsel and educate the mother and family.

Educate mother sign of well baby feed on breast, active behaviors, pink extremities and trunk and extremities are warm to touch.

5. Ensure baby gaining weight

6. Advise for timely immunization.
