Viridans streptococci
(Alpha haemolysis on blood sugar)
It is gram positive cocci, that constitute main facultative oral flora.
Pathogenesis
It causes dental caries, infect heart valve during bactermia causing subacute bacterial endocarditis.
It also causes necrosis of adrenal.
Treatment and Prevention
1. Patient with valvular disease receives prophylactic penicillin before starting oral diet or dental procedures.
2. Rifampin is used to treat family'membrane of Infected individual.
3. Oral ciprofloxacin and intramuscular ceftriaxone are used for prophylaxis.
