Gall bladder small pear shaped sac organ that situated in fossa (depression) on posterior surface of right lobe of liver.
Size of Gall Bladder
Gall bladder is 7-10 cm long, 3 cm wide and it's widest part 30-50ml in capacity.
Parts of Gall Bladder
Gall bladder has three parts-
1. Fundus
2. Body
3. Neck
1. Fundus
Fundus of gall bladder lies on inferior border of liver. It is entirely surrounded by peritoneum.
2. Body
Body of gall bladder is upper narrow end of body continuous with neck at right end of porta hepatis.
3. Neck
Neck of gall bladder narrow upper end of gall bladder, situated near right end of porta hepatis
It continuous with cystic duct.
Structure of Gall bladder
Gallbladder is a pear-shape hollow structure, located under the liver and on the right hypochondrial region of the abdomen.
Layers of Gall Bladder
Gall bladder lacks submucosa.
Gall bladder has three layer-
1.Outer Serous Peritoneal Coat
This layer covers the outer gallbladder, and is continuous with visceral peritoneum, which lines the abdominal cavity. Posterior surface by Visceral peritoneum of liver.
2. Middle Muscularis
Smooth muscle layer allows gall bladder to contract. Muscularis contract in response to CCK secreted by duodenum.
3. Inner Mucosa
Mucosa composed of simple columnar epithelium arrange in rugae when gall bladder is empty.
Rugae disappear when it fil with bile.
Rugae permit gall bladder to expand to hold bile.
Mucus membrane secrete mucin and absorbs water.
Function of Gall Bladder
1. Regulates pressure in biliary system
2. Store and concentrates bile ( it release into duodenum when required) become thicker viscous and darker.
3. Add mucus to bile
4. Secretion of mucus
5. Absorption of water
