Levels of ICU
There are three different level of intensive care unit.
1. Level - l Units
2. Level - ll Units
3. Level - lll Units
1. Level - l Units
Level l units are complicated, critically ill patients require continuous availablity of equipment, specialized nurse, physician and critical care team.
This can be referred as high dependency where close monitoring, resuscitation, observation and short term ventilation <24 hours is performed.
2. Level - ll Units
Level ll unit have limited resources to provide critical care. This level able to provide high quality of care to patient.
This unit provides observation, monitoring and long term ventilation with resident doctors.
Nurse patient ratio is 1:2
3. Level - lll Units
Level lll units cover all aspects of intensive care.
Provide in tertiary hospital, highly specialized staff and technical equipment, which is referral hospital.
Nude patient ratio 1:1
