Human digestive system consists of the gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs of digestion. Digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract called the GI tract or digestive tract.
It is combination of organ which helps in breakdown of food into smaller and smaller components, until they can be absorbed and assimilated into the body.
What is Digestion?
Digestion is the complex process of turning the food into smaller and smaller components that nutrients can be absorbed into bloodstream. Body uses that nutrient for energy, growth and cell repair needed to survive. The digestion process also involves creating waste that eliminated from body.
What is Digestive Process?
The digestion process organ involved-
Mouth - Esophagus- Stomach - Small Intestine - Large Intestine (Colon, Rectum and Anus).
Digestion process include six activities -
Ingestion - Propulsion - Mechanical/ Physical digestion - Chemical digestion - Absorption - Defecation.
Ingestion is entry of food into the GI track or alimentary canal through the mouth.
