Respiratory muscles includes three group; diaphragm, rib cage muscles and, abdominal muscles.
Main muscles of respiration are-
1. Diaphragm
Diaphragm is muscles between lung and stomach in help in breathe.
Diaphragm is dome-shaped sheet of muscle that separates thoracic cavity from the abdomen. It is the most important muscle used for breathing in (called inhalation or inspiration). The diaphragm is attached to the base of the sternum (breastbone).
It contract downward.
Causing necessary verticle increase into thoracic cavity.
2. Intercostal muscle
There are 11 pair of intercostal muscle.
It occupy the space between 12 pairs of ribs and attached to ribs, arranged in 2 layer-
A. External intercostal muscle
B. Internal intercostal muscle
A. External intercostal muscle
Extend downward and forward
B. Internal Intercostal muscles
(extend downward and backward) are supply with nerve by intercostal nerve.
3. Accessory muscles of Inspiration; inhalation
Sternocleidomastoid and scalene muscle; considered main accessory muscle of breathing.

Pectoralis
Serratus
