Difference between small intestine and large intestine

Small intestine

1. 21 feet

2. Longer and small width

3. Inbetween stomach and large intestine

3. Help in - digestion, absorption

4. It absorbs carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins.

5. Small intestine have 3 parts - Duodenum, Jejunum, Ileum

6. Consist circular fold in internal surface.

7.Consist villi in the internal surface.

8. Does not contain Haustra ( pauches)

9.Lacks epiploic appendages.

10. Involve is digestion

11. Absorbs most of nutrients in digested food.

12. Taeniae coli absent

13. Peyer's patches present in ileum

14. Secretes hormone

15. Wall is smooth.

16.  Narrow

17. Longer than larger intestine

18. Longitudinal muscle are arranged in circular layer.


Large intestine


1. Shorter and broad

2. Last part of digestive system

3. Help in readsorption of food and elimination of waste.

4. It absorbs water, nutrient, and salts.

5. Large intestine has four large parts-

Caceum

Colon

Rectum

Anal canal


6. Lacks circular folds on internal surface

7. Don't consist of villi

8. Contain Haustra

9. Contain epiploic appendages

10. Digestion is not function

11. Absorbs water from indigestible portion of food

12. Taeniae coli absent

13.Peyer's patches absent in ileum

14. Do not secrete hormone

15. Wall is sacculated (sac like)

16. Broader

17. Shorten than small intestine

18. Longitudinal muscles are arranged in 3 bands taniae coli.
