Aorta and Major Arteries of the Body

Aorta is the largest artery in the body. It is divided into four parts- ascending aorta, aortic arch, thoracic aorta, and abdominal aorta.


1. Aorta extends to thoracic aorta and abdominal aorta.

2. Aorta is connected to the coronary arteries, left subclavian artery and left common carotid artery.

3. Left common carotid artery carry O2 blood to brain, and left subclavian artery carries O2 blood to left arm.

4. Thoracic Aorta is connected to bronchial arteries, located into lungs.

a. Esophagus arteries that are located in esophagus.

b. Intercostal arteries that located in ribs and tissue of the thorax.

5. Abdominal aorta is connected to celiac artery located into stomach, liver, spleen and pancreas.

a. Superior mesenteric artery which is connected to small intestine.

b. Inferior mesenteric artery which is connected to large intestine.

c. Renal arteries that are located in kidneys.

d. Testicular artery located in testis.

e. Ovarian artery connected to ovarian and uterine arteries.

6. Other connections of abdominal aorta are right common iliac artery and left comon iliac arteries.

These arteries supply to lower part of body which includes pelvis,  pelvic organ and legs.
