1. Thalamus
This consists of two mases of grey and white mater situated with cerebral hemisphere just below corpus callosum, one on each side third ventricle.
Main function of thalamus is relay motor and sensory signals to cerebral cortex. It also regulates sleep, alertness and wakefulness.

2. Hypothalamus
It lies directly under thalamus, hypothalamus include control of; autonomic control center
Thirst center
Water and electrolyte balance
Sleep wake pattern; waking cycle
Appetite
Respiration
Sexual behavior
Temperature regulation; body temperature
Emotional reaction
preoptic area; coordinate sleep and body temperature.
Hormone control; pituitary gland
Pleasure/ fear
