CLABSI bundle

Prevention of central line associated blood stream infection, insertion care bundle includes-

1. Hand hygiene

2. Appropriate PPE (mask, sterile gown, strile gloves, cap)

3. Use sterile items/ equipments

4. Disinfect skin with 10% povidine iodine

5. Sterile central line insertion set

6. Transparent dressing/ Gauze dressing 

(Central line associated blood stream infection bundle)

CLABSI bundle Includes;

1. Perform hand hygiene prior to insertion

2. Use barrier precautions

3. Apply chlorhexidine skin antisepsis

4. Cleansing the insertion site with chlorhexidine

5.  Optimal site selection (avoidance of femoral vein in adults)

6. Conducting catheter site inspections and care provided; change guaze dressing 

CLABSI Maintenance Care Bundle

1. Review need for CVC on daily basis

2. Inspect CVC daily for sign of Infection

3. Hand hygiene and appropriate PPE before accessing the device

4. Disinfects catheter hubs, ports, connectors with alcohol based disinfectant before use.

5. Closed port usage

6. Cover CVC ports with sterile sheet/ sterile skin pad

7. Change dressing and disinfect site with alcohol based chlorhexidine/ Povidone-iodine on 3rd day (gauze dressing), 7th day transparent dressing.

8. Replace dressing when it become visibly soiled, damp, loose.

9. Flushing; after every 6-8hours

10. After taking blood sample/ administration of medication
