Orogastric Intubation
Orogastric intubation is process of involving the insertion of a plastic tube through the mouth. Thin soft tube passed through client's mouth, through the oropharynx, through the oesophagus and into the stomach.
1. Position the client in fowler's position and support head and shoulders with a pillow.
2. Measure the length of tub required to enter the stomach.
3. Lubricate the tube with lubricating jelly.
4. Hold the tongue between thumb and forefinger.
5. Position the end of the tube downward and insert the tube into the oral cavity over the tongue.
6. Smoothly push tube down toward the pharynx. When the tube touches the pharynx, flex the head forward, past tube to esophagus to down to stomach.
7. Check the placement of tube.
8. Place the plastic mouth airway and tape is used to prevent biting of the tube.
9. Documting the patient's file.
