1. Cuffed endotracheal tube

Cuffed EE tubes are used in children >8 years.

When cuff inflates maintain the ET tube in proper position and prevent aspiration of contents from GI tract. The cuff pressure should be between 20 and 30 cm H2O.


2. Uncuffed endotracheal tube

In children <8 uncuffed ET tube used.

3. Oral endotracheal tube

For oral intubations;

7.0-7.5 ETT is generally appropriate for an average woman.

7.5-8.5 ETT for an average man.

Pediatric tubes are sized using the equation: size = (age/4) +4) for uncuffed ETTs, with cuffed tubes being one-half size smaller.
