Fallopian tube (Uterine tube/ Oviduct)
Paired structure tube, that connect ovaries to uterus.
Length; 10cm long
Uterine tube has two opening;
One is communicating with uterine cavity; uterine opening (1mm in diameter) and other is end of tube called pelvic opening or abdominal ostium (2mm in diameter).
Parts of Uterine Tube
1. Intramural or interstitial (1.25cm) in length, 1mm diameter.
2. Isthmus (3-4cm), 2 mm in diameter
3. Ampulla (common site for fertilization; length 5cm)
4. Infundibulum (1.25cm); wide part
Diameter 6mm
Distal end of infundibulum; fimbriae
Structure of Fallopian Tube
(Aid in maintenance of mature sperm cell and ovum).
Peg cell (non-cilitated epithelium); secrete nutrient material for ovum.
Layers of Fallopian Tube
1. Serous
2. Muscularis
Assist in propulsion of fertilized ovum.
Outer longitudinal
Inner circular
3. Mucus membrane
Longitudinal folds, lined by cilitated epithelium cells (propel ova).
Arterial Supply of Fallopian Tube
1. Uterine artery
2. Ovarian artery
Venous Supply of Fallopian Tube
Venous drain into;
1. Internal iliac vein
2. Ovarian vein drain into renal vein and drain into inferior vena cava.
Lymphatic Drainage
Ovarian and uterine lymph node
Drain into para-aortic and internal iliac lymph nodes.
Nerve Supply
Uterine nerve supply
Overian nerve supply
