Difference between Immediate and Delayed Hypersensitivity
Immediate hypersensitivity
1. Reaction appears immediately within minutes.
2. Antibody mediated reaction
3. Passive transfer possible by serum or their extracts.
4. Desensitization is easy but short- lived.
5. Wheal and flare with maximum diameter in 6 hours.
Delayed Hypersensitivity
1. Appears slowly with in 24-72 hours and lasts longer for days.
2. Cell mediated reaction.
3. Transfer possible only with lymphoid cells.
4. Difficult but long lasting
5. Erythema and induration with maximum diameter in 24-48 hours.
