Black Fungus
Mucormycosis is known as “Black
Fungus” infection. It is an invasive fungal infection. It is a rare but
dangerous fungal infection, which the brain and the lungs.
According to the Center for
disease control and prevention (CDC),
Mucormycosis or black fungus
infection is caused by a group of mold called Mucormycetes, which are
widely found in the environment.

Black fungus only causes
serious complications when a patient has pre-existing health problems or has
taken medication that compromises the immunity system or has or less
immunity.
Now it is observed that The
mucormycosis infection, which has been in a person who is recovering or
recovered from COVID 19, and is treatable. If left untreated or the treatment
is delayed, an infection can lead to loss of vision, can cause blindness, and
increase the risk of mortality.
Mucormycosis cases have been reported in covid 19
patient in some states of India, surat in Gujrat, Delhi, and
Maharastra.

the sinuses or lungs and spread to the brain.

Symptoms
of Black Fungus
Warning symptoms include-
1. Nasal congestion
2. Blackening or discoloration
over the nose
3. Toothache
4. Eye pain
5. Blurred or double vision
7. Headache
8. Chest pain, breathing difficulties
and coughing blood and worsening respiratory symptoms.
Black fungal infection,
strongly linked to diabetes, very prone.
Treatment
of Mucormycosis
Mucormycosis is treated-
1. As
per expert controlling diabetes is of utmost (extremely) importance,
reduce the use of steroid, discontinue immunomodulating drug (Change in the
body's immune system, caused by agents that activate or suppress its function).
2. Administering a course of anti-fungal therapy.
3. Surgically removing all dead and infected tissue areas.
4. Treatment
protocol include use antifungal therapy in all ICU patients.
How
to prevent it?
1. To prevent the disease, blood glucose levels should be monitored
post- covid discharge and also in a diabetic patients.
2. Steroid should use correct timing, dose, and duration.
3. Antibiotic and antifungal medicines should be used correctly.
4. Clean sterile water should be used to humidified during
oxygen therapy.
This black fungus become fatal if it reaches the brain.

patient-

person who has diabetes or uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.
2. Person, who has been on
antibiotics for a long time.
3. Person who has received
long-term therapy.
4. Person who has been on
steroids.
5. Oxygen cylinders and the
tube is not clean while intaking oxygen
6. Person who had prolonged
stays in hospital ICUs, immunity decreases.

COVID-19 survivors, causing blindness or serious illness and even death in some
cases.

the case of a patient with COVID-19 infection, black fungus infection also
occur recently.
Other respiratory infections that cause Pneumonia, COVID-19 infection
can cause lung damage and severe complications.
