Valves of Heart
4 heart valves allow blood to flow through heart in only one direction.
They prevent back flow of blood.
1. Tricuspid valve (right atrioventricular valve or RAV)
2. Bicuspid valve (left atrioventricular valve or LAV)
3. Pulmonary valve
4. Aortic valve
1. Tricuspid valve
Right AV valve allows blood to flow from right atrium to right ventricle.
It consist of three cusps.
2. Bicuspid valve
Left AV valve allows blood to flow from left atrium to left ventricle.
It has two cusps.
3. Pulmonary valve
Pulmonary valve allow deoxygenated blood to flow from right ventricle to pulmonary artery.
4. Aortic valve
Aortic valve oxygenated blood to flow from left ventricle to aorta.
Aortic and pulmonary valves are called semilunar valve (SL valve).
