Difference between myelinated and unmyelinated sheath
Myelinated sheath
Myelinated nerve fibers contains a myelin sheath.
White in colour
Consist of nodes of ranvier
Speed of transmission of nerve impulses is high.
Include most peripheral nerve
Long axon nerve fibers are myelinated
Myelin sheath prevents loss of the impulse during conduction.
Myelin nerve fibre; spinal nerve, cranial nerve
Unmyelinated sheath
Unmyelinated nerve fibers Donot contain myelin sheath.
Grey in colour
Donot consist of nodes of ranvier
Speed of transmissions of nerve impulse is slow.
Include small axon neuron in CNS.
Short axon nerve fibers are unmyelinated.
Can loss of nerve impulse during conduction.
Non-myelinated nerve fibers; autonomic nervous system, somatic nervous system
