Control center of body
Nervous system is master controlling and communicating system of body.
It's cell communicate by electrical and chemical signals.
Network of nerve cell and fibres which transmits nerve impulses between parts of body.
Function of nervous system
Three basic function-
1. Sensory function
2. Integration function
3. Motor function
1. Sensory function;
sensory receptors to monitor changes.
It sense certain changes, both inside and outside in our body. Inside changes such as- stretching of our stomach, increase in blood acidity. Outside changes such as - raindrop landing on arm, fragrance of rose.
Gathered information is called sensory input.
2. Integrative function
It processes and interpretes sensory input.
3. Motor Function
It respond appropriately to sensory input.
It causes response, called motor output.
For example, when we are driving and see red light (sensory input)
Our nervous system integrates this information (red light means stop)
Our foot goes to for breake (motor output)
Organization of Nervous System
Nervous system divided-
1. Central nervous system (CNS); Brain and Spinal cord
2. Peripheral nervous system (PNS); Nerves
1. Sensory (afferent) division
2. Motor (efferent) division
1. Somatic nervous system
a. Somatic afferent (voluntary)
b. Visceral afferent (involuntary)
2. Autonomic nervous system (ANS)
a. Sympathetic nervous system
b. Parasympathetic nervous system
