Types of nerve cells
There are 3 types of nerves in the body, based.on function
1 Sensory nerve
2. Motor nerve
3. Mixed nerve
1. Sensory nerve; Afferent nerve
Sensory nerve is also called adherent nerve. When action potential are generated by sensory receptors on the dendrites, they transmitted impulse to the spinal cord by sensory nerve fibers.
The impulse may then pass the brain for the further action.
Sensory receptors respond to different stimuli inside and outside of the body.
Types of sensory nerves
There are four types of sensory nerve-
1. Somatic nerve
2. Proprioceptos
3. special senses
4. Autonomic adherent nerve
1. Somatic nerve
These originated in the skin (cutaneous) and common senses.
They are pain, touch, heat and cold
2. Proprioceptors nerve
These originated in muscle and joint and contribute to the maintenance of balance and postures.
3. Special senses
They are sight, hearing, balance, smell and taste.
4.Automatic afferent nerve
They originated in internal organs, gland and tissue. They are responsible for involuntary activities inside the body.
2. Motor or efferent nerve
Motor nerve originates in the brain, spinal cord. They transmit impulse to effector organs which are muscles and gland.
Motor or efferent nerve are two types-
1. Somatic nerve
2. Autonomic nerve
1. Somatic nerve
Somatic nerve are involves in all the voluntary activities and skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation.
2. Automatic nerve
These are involve in the cardiac and smooth muscle contraction and glandular secretion.
These nerve are responsible for both sympathetic and parasympathetic.
3. Mixed nerve
Mixed nerve composed of both motor or sensory fibers.
In spinal cord, sensory and motor nerves are arranged in separate groups which are called triads outside the spinal cord.
When the sensory and motor nerves are enclosed with in the same sheath of connective tissue, they are called mixed nerve.
Different types of neurons include sensory, motor, and interneurons.
