attachment of muscles

Muscular system

Muscular system is an organ system consisting of skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscles. It permits movement of body, maintains posture and circulates blood throughout body.

There are about 600 skeletal muscle in our body which make up muscular system.

Attachment of Muscles

1. Tendons (skeletal muscle attached to bone).

2. Aponeurosis (very broad tendon)

3. Facia (connect muscle to muscle)

Tendons

Muscle is attached to bone by tendon. That are tough band of connective tissue composed of closely packed collagen fibers.

Tendon is extension of epimysium surrounding muscle. It also extends into periosteum that cover bone, into the bone (penetrate bone anchor)

Tendons add length and thickness to muscles and important in reducing pressure strain on muscle.

Thickest tendon in the body calcaneal tendon. It attached calf muscle to the heal bone (calcaneus)

Aponeuroses

Ribbon or a flat sheet material that anchors Muscle.

Very broad tendon is called aponeurosis.

For example, abdominal wall, the tendon spreads or in broad, flat sheet or ribbon called Aponeuroses.

For example, fibrous sheath beneath skin of palm called palmer Aponeuroses.

Tendon and fascia work together with muscle, which create muscular system, necessary for movement.
