Structure of female reproductive system
1. Essential organ
Gonads; paired ovaries.
Female gametes or ova are produced by ovaries.
2. Accessory organ
Group of organ includes;
1. Uterine tubes, uterus and vagina
2. Vulva; external reproductive organs)
3. Mammary gland
External Genitalia, Vulva or Pudendum
1. Mons pubis
Elevation of fatty tissue that covers symphysis pubis.
2. Labia majora
Outer lips of vulva.
a. Pudendal cleft
Space between labia majora called pudendal cleft.
3. Labia minora
Inner lips of vulva.
4. Clitoris
Small erectile portion at uper end of vulva, below mons pubis, where labia minora meet.
5. Vestibule
Vestibule is space between labia minora.
6. Bulbs of vestibule
Bulb of vestibule engorged with blood during sexual Intercourse.
7. Greater vestibule glands
It lie each side of vaginal opening, secretes mucus that keep vulva moist, provide lubrication for sexual Intercourse.
8. Lesser vestibular glands
It lie near urethral opening, mucus secreting gland.
During sexual intercourse greater and lesser vestibular gland secretes alkaline mucus solution to that provide lubrication and also neutralize some natural acidity of vagina.
9. Perineum
Perineum forms floor of pelvis and contains external genetalia and anal opening.
Internal Genitalia
1. Vagina or Birth canal
2. Uterus
3. Uterine tube or fallopian tube or oviducts
4. Ovaries
