 Piggyback IV Set/Y-ports/Secondary IV therapy

Piggyback IV set also known as Y-ports. Y-site is an injection port on the side of an intramembranous (IV line). This port provide a second access point in patient IV tubing for additional IV medications to be given.

In an IV piggyback setup, secondary IV tubing connected to the primary tubing. Additional medication adminsed via secondary tubing that connected to primary intravenous line. 

Piggyback IV technique means the patient does not require multiple IV sites.

Note - It is important to remember that not all IV solutions are compatible with all IV medications.
