Suctioning
Suctioning is medical procedure in which mechanical aspiration of pulmonary secretions from a patient with an artificial airway in place. Clear the airway secretion, mucus, plug and assist in breathing.
Suctioning can be performed through an endotracheal tube, a tracheostomy tube, the mouth, or the nose.
1. ETT (endotracheal Tube) suction
2. Oropharyngeal suction
3. Tracheostomy suction
Suctioning is performed to maintain the patency of artificial airways such as an endotracheal tube or a tracheostomy tube.
Suctioning clears mucus from airways and is essential for proper breathing.
There are two separate suctioning techniques;
1. Open system
2. Closed system
