Classification of bacteria on the basis of Nutrition
1. On the basis of Nutrition and energy requirement
1. Photorophs
Derive their food and energy from sunlight.
2. Chemotrophs
Obtain their food and energy from chemical reaction.
3. Autotrophs
Produce their own food. Utilize atmospheric CO2 and Nitrogen.
4. Heterotrophs
Obtain their nutrient from host body.
2. On the basis of gaseous requirement
1. Aerobic bacteria
Require Oxygen for growth.
2. Anaerobic bacteria
Not use oxygen for growth and energy.
a. Strict anaerobic
Can grow only in absence of O2.
b. Facultative anaerobic
Can grow in presence as well as absence of O2.
