The details categories of biomedical waste are;

Categories No. 1

Human anatomical waste; human tissue, organs, body parts

Animal waste; animal tissue, organs, body part, carcasses bleeding parts (dead body of animals), fluids, blood and experimental animal used in research.

These waste are generated by veterinary hospitals, colleges, discharges from hospital and animal house.

3. Category No. 3

Microbiology and Bacteriology waste

Waste from; laboratory culture, stocks and specimen of microorganisms, human and animal cell culture used, live or attenuated vaccine, infectious agent from research industrial laboratories, waste from production of biological toxins and dishes, device for transfer culture.

Autoclaving/ microwaving/ incineration 


4. Category No. 4

Waste sharps

Needle, syringes, blades, glass, scalpels, small knife, detachable blade

That may puncture and cut.

This includes both used and unused sharps.

Ash from incineration made up of any type of biomedical waste.

Treatment and Disposal

Disposal in municipal landfill.

Chemical waste

It includes chemicals used in disinfectant such as;

1. Insecticides

2. Pesticides

Treatment and Disposal

Chemical treatment and discharge into drains for liquids and secured land fill for solid.
