Small bacteria round to avoid, non motile, gram negative.
Variation in size during different stages of multiple.
Chlamydiae contain three pathogenic species;
1. Chlamydiae trachomatis
Infection in genitourinary tract and eye.
2. Chlamydiae psittaci
Infection in lower respiratory tract.
3. Chlamydiae pneumoniae
Respiratory tract infection.
Characteristics
Multiplication is by binary fission in the cytoplasm of host cell
The organism is susceptible to wide range of antibiotics.
