HLA Typing is way to know how closely tissue of one person match tissue of another person.

Used to match patient's and donor for bone marrow and stem cell transplant to know how closely the transplant recipient matches their donor.

1. Molecular method; DNA based PCR

2. Serological assay; Using antibodies 

3. Mixed Lymphocytes; Culture technique; T- cell

Uses of HLA 

1. Before tissue transplantation (liver and kidney transplantation) 

2. For determination of paternity

3. Platelet transfusion

4. Finding association of HLA with disease.

HLA- DR; with Rheumatoid arthritis (Inflammation in joint, hand, feet)

HLA- B27; Ankylosing spondylitis (inflammatory arthritis affecting spine and large joint).
