Hypersensitivity/Hypersensitivity Reaction
Hypersensitivity refers to a condition in which immune system produce a response against antigens (also called allergens) that results in excessive reactions leading to tissue damage.
Hypersensitivity occurs in certain individuals who have previous contact with antigen and when exposed to second dose of the same antigen, allergy occurs in them.
This initial dose of antigen sensitizes the immune system by sensitizing B or T cells and is called sensitizing dose
The second dose of antigen that is responsible for causing allergy or abnormal reactions is called "shocking dose".
Hypersensitivity is an increased immune response on the exposure to a specific antigen, which may or maynot cause tissue injury.
Hypersensitivity Diagnostic Skin Test
Skin tests are diagnostic procedures performed by intradermal administration of diagnostic materials or application to the surface of skin.
It may be performed by;
Intracutaneous injection (intradermal)
Transcutaneous administration
(Short scratches made in skin)
Patch test
(For contact dermatitis)
