mycoplasma urealyticum (Pleomorphic Bacteria)

 Mycoplasma Urealyticum

Commonly cause urithritis especially in men, when neither gonococcus or Clamydia can be demonstrated.

In women, it causes endometritis.

The infection is contagious and can be transmitted through Saliva, needle injury and contaminated blood.

Both mycoplasma Hominis and mycobacterium Urealyticum are common inhabitants of genitourinary tract, in sexually active adults.

Specimen collection

Vaginal secretion and urethral swab

Cultural characteristics and culture

Grow on enrich medium at temperature 25-30 degree celcius, at PH 7.2-7.5

Blood culture 

Sensitivity test

Mycoplasma Hominis show resistance for erythromycin.

Treatment

Tetracycline is effective for treatment.
