Virus
Study of virus is known as virologist.
Virus is an anobligate intracellular infective parasite, without cellular Organization (donot have cell).
Contain one type of nucleic acid either RNA or DNA but never both.
They are resistant to antibiotics but sensitive to interferons (antiviral substance)
They are totally dependent on host cells for replication.
There are two classification of virus;
1. RNA virus
2. DNA virus
General properties of virus
1. Obligate intracellular parasite
2. Don't posses cellular composition
3. Lack of enzymes necessary for protein and nucleic acid synthesis
4. Dependent on host cell for replication
5. Unaffected by antibiotics
Morphology of virus
Virus is smallest microorganisms, can be seen through microscope
Size;
Size of virus measures in monometer nm)
Largest size of virus; 300nm (small pox virus, variola major)
Smallest virus size is 20nm (foot and mouth disease virus).
