Tonsillitis
Tonsillitis are inflammation of tonsils.
Tonsils are two small masses of tissue at side of throat.
Its main function is to defend the body against toxic substances that found in blood.
Tonsillitis are inflamed tonsils, inflammation due to infection or due to toxic substances.
When tonsils infected it become swollen, red and tender also cause to swollen lymph node to fight against infection.
A grayish-white or yellowing coating cover the part or whole part of tonsils.
Types Tonsillitis
1. Acute tonsillitis
Caused by bacteria or virus.
2. Subacute tonsillitis
Caused by bacteriaum Actinomyces.
2. Chronic tonsillitis
Due to long period of infection.
3. Recurrent tonsillitis
Multiple episodes of infection.
4. Peritonsillar abscess/quinsy
Localized collection of pus in one of tonsils and the wall of throat.
Etiology
1. Bacterial and viral infection
Bacteriaum Group A beta -streptococci
2. Contact with infected person secretions
3. Toxic substances in body
4. Glandular fever (viral infection caused high temperature (fever) a severely sore throat)
Clinical Manifestations
1. Swelling and pain in throat
2. Severe sore throat
3. Difficulty and pain in swallowing
4. Glandular fever
5. Stiff neck
6. Muscle pain; myalgia
7. Swelling in lymph node in neck
8. Swelling of eyes, face and neck
10. Foul breath; halitosis
12. Snoring

Management
1. Pain management
Analgesic; Acetaminophen
2. Antibiotics
Erythromycin, Clarithromycin
Surgical Management
1. Tonsillectomy
Remove the tonsils.
