Retinitis pigmentosa or Rod Cone Dystrophy
Eye disease damage to retina.
Excessive amount of substance called phytanic acid accumulate and cause extensive damage to retina.
Retina begins degenerate.
First causes peripheral (side) vision and night vision to diminish, then central vision (tunnel vision).
Management
1. Vitamin A beta carotene; antioxidant
2. Acetazolamide
3. Calcium channel blockers
4. Lutein/ Zeaxanthin
Leutin protect macula from oxidative damage.
5. Transplantation
Retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) transplanted.
