Lymphatic vessels contain valves for one way movement of the lymph.

Upward movement of lymph by 3 force-

1. Contraction of smooth muscle

2.Circular and longitudinal arrangement of smooth muscle in lymphatic vessels moves lymph.

3.Skeletal muscle pump, during normal body movement squeezing action of surrounding skeletal muscles help move lymph through lymphatic vessels.

4.Respiratory pump, Pressure changes in thorax during respiration aids in lymph flow.

5.Tissue fluid pressure

6.Pressure caused by pulsation of adjacent arteries.
