Leucopoiesis/Leukopoiesis
Leucopoiesis/leukopoiesis is formation of leucocytes.
Leucopoiesis is the process of production of WBCs.
Leukocytes originate from hemocytoblasts of blood forming bone marrow. Leucopoiesis also occur throughout body in lymph tissues such as;
lymph nodes, spleen and tonsils.
Hemocytoblast; present in bone marrow.
Myeloblast Lymphoblast Monoblast
Progranulocyte Lymphocytes Monocytes
Agranulocytes
Basophilic myelocyte Eosinophilic myelocyte Neutrophilic myelocyte
Basophilic band cell Eosinophilic band cell Neutrophilic band cell
Basophil Eosinophil Neutrophil
Granulocytes
Lymphocytes originate from hemocytoblasts from bone marrow and migrate to the blood from blood circulation. It invade lymphoid tissue and establish colonies and after invading lymphoid tissue. They produce additional lymphocytes, without involving bone marrow.
Life span of leucocyte
About 13-20 days
