Thymus gland
Primary lymphoid organ.
Produce T lymphocytes for immune system.
Thymus is located in mediastinum superior of Heart.
Thymus gland Hormone
1. Thymosin
2. Thymulin
3. Thymopoietin
4. Thymic factor
5. Thymic humoral factor
1. Thymosin
This is hormone secreted by thymus gland and is involved in development of T - lymphocytes for cell mediated immunity.
Development of immune system and regulate development of activation of disease fighting blood cells ( T- lymphocytes).
Thymus gland pink, lobulated lymphoid organ located in thoracic cavity .
Thymus divided into lobules.
Each on consisting of central medulla and peripheral cortex.
Two distinct lobes of the thymus are connected in midline by isthmus.
Blood supply to thymus comes from internal thoracic artery as well as superior and inferior thyroid arteries.
Drainage to superior, middle and inferior thyroid veins.
Thymus covered by - connective tissue capsule.
Each lobules peripheral dark zone called cortex and middle lighter zone called medulla.
Formation of T- Cells
T cell originate in bone marrow and thymus.
In thymus T cells multiply and differentiate into;
Helper T cells
Cytotoxic T cells
Formation process of T cells
Hematopoietic stem cell (Hemocytoblast)
Common lymphoid progenitor
Natural killar cells (NK cells) Small lymphocytes
(large granular lymphocytes) T lymphocytes B lymphocytes
Helper T cells Cytotoxic T cells Plasma cell (B cells)
Function of thyroxine Hormone
Thyroxine hormone secreted into blood stream by thyroid gland.
Functions are;
Digestion
Heat function
metabolism
Bone health
Muscle function
Brain development
Maintenance of bone
