Urinary Catheter
Urinary catheter is a flexible tube placed into the bladder through urethral opening to drain urine and collect urine from the bladder in drainage bag.
Types of Urinary Catheter
1. Intermittent catheter
2. Indwelling catheter
3. External catheter/ condom catheter; for male patients.
Length of a female urethra is around 3 to 4 cm.
Length of a male urethra is around 18 to 20 cm.
Female catheter is much shorter than a male catheter.
Male catheters are usually up to 40cm long and female catheters are usually up to 20cm long.
