Asepsis means free from infection and prevention of contact with Microorganism.

Asepsis is state of being free from disease- causing contaminants.

Asepsis

Asepsis followed by two technique;

1. Medical asepsis (General asepsis)

2. Surgical asepsis (OT asepsis)

1. Medical asepsis (General asepsis)

Medical asepsis is disinfectant technique. All article used to protect the client and his environment from transmission of disease producing organism.

Include disinfection of article and environment.

Medical asepsis include;

Cleaning of article

Handwashing

Gown technique

Face mask 

Gloves

2. Surgical asepsis (OT asepsis)

In surgical asepsis sterile technique is used.

It includes both disinfectant and sterilization techniques.

Design to prevent surgical site infection.

All the procedures used to kept object or areas should be sterile i.e completely free from all kinds of microorganisms and including their spores.

Surgical asepsis include;

1. Surgical hand washing

2. Sterilization of article

3. Fumigation of OT and it's equipment

2. Wear PPE

Asepsis Instructions

1. All items sterile

2. Sterile item package opened time of actual use

3. Moist area not considered sterile

4. Contaminated item removed from sterile field.

5. Checking all equipment and packaging

6. No talking, laughing, coughing or sneezing across a sterile field.

7. Tear in barriers are considered breaks in sterility

8. Margin of safety is maintained between sterile and non-sterile
