Corynebacteria are made up of two main species;
1. Corynebacterium diphtheriae
2. Diphtheroids
Most pathogenesis species are facultative anaerobes but commensals (diphtheroids) grow aerobically.
Diphtheroids
Diphtheroids are commensals of human nose, throat, nasopharynx, urinary tract and conjunctiva, so they are called diphtheroid.
They are aerobic.
They are unable to produce exotoxin.
