Antiseptic
Antiseptics kill microorganisms on skin, it is applied to skin. Antiseptic is used for killing the microbes on the living tissues but do not kill spores.
Antisepsis
Antisepsis is concerned with the removal of microorganisms immediately before, during, and after surgery or other work.
Asepsis
Asepsis is concerned with the maintenance of sterile conditions through good hygiene procedures.
Sterilization
A process called sterilization destroys both spores and bacteria.
Disinfection
Destruction or removal of all pathogenic organisms or organisms capable to giving rise to infection. Disinfectant is applied on a non-living object.
Chemical disinfectants can kill bacteria, but they do not destroy their spores.
Terminal Disinfection; Final Disinfection
Process of disinfection of a room or building after vacated by patient who had contagious diseases.
Terminal disinfection is the application of disinfective measure after the patient had been removed by death or to hospital, isolation or other practices has been discontinued to prevent growth capable of Infection.
For example; Bedding room, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, hospital waste discarded, sterilization of patient supplies and equipment, fumigation after patient is discharged from unit or hospital.
Concurrent Disinfection
Concurrent Disinfection is disinfection and srerilization of patient supplies and equipment during hospitalization.
