Sterilization is the process by which an object becomes free of all the microorganism (both pathogenic and non pathogenic organisms including their spores are destroyed).

2. Sterile item package opened time of actual use
3. Moist area not considered sterile
4. Contaminated item removed from sterile field.
5. Checking all equipment and packaging
6. No talking, laughing, coughing or sneezing across a sterile field.
7. Tear in barriers are considered breaks in sterility
8. Margin of safety is maintained between sterile and non-sterile
Role of Nurse
1. Assist the doctor in caring for the patient while maintaining asepsis.
2. Supply equipment to surgeon in sterile.
3. Practice aseptic technique such as urinary catheter insertion, dressing changes and respiratory suction.
4. Monitor movement and practice of sterile technique.
5. Prevent breaks in sterile or clean technique
6. Promote asepsis, updating policies and procedures
7. Relate to principle of aseptic technique
