Pseudomonas
Cause Nosocomial Infection.
It is involved in hospital acquired infection.
These are live freely in water, soil, plants and air contaminated equipments.
Morphology
Gram negative bacilli actively motile, non capsulated, non sporing.
Size; 1.5 - 3 micrometer X 0.5 micrometre
Characteristics
Pseudomonas is a strict aerobe.
Grow wall on ordinary media nutrient broth and nutrient agar.
Sources and Modes of Transmission
Direct contact
Contact with wound or burn
Widely spread in hospital environment
Present in water, soil and dust air.
Pathogenesis
Causes fever shock.
Localized infection, Nosocomial Infection.
Due to resistance to common antibiotic and antiseptic widely in hospital.
It causes localized and systemic illness.

Specimen collection

Gram stain and morphology
Gram -ve bacilli, actively motile by polar flagella.
Cultural characteristics and culture
Strict aerobe media
Biochemical test
Ferment glucose forming acid only.
Treatment and Prevention
1. Following universal safety precautions in health care setting.
2. After swimming must take off costume and showers properly.
3. Ears should be dried carefully
Treatment
Combine anti- microbial therapy is administered.
Mainly use of antibiotic like; Gentamicin
