Ehrlichia
These organisms resemble Rickettsia, but these organisms attack on WBC and grow in cytoplasmic vacuoles, producing characteristic inclusions called morulae.
Transmitted by ticks.
Pathogenesis
Recently two tick borne diseases of ehrlichiosis are known-
1. Human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HMF) caused by Ehrlichia chaffeensis
2. Human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA)
Symptoms include;
1. Acute fever
2. Myalgia
3. Thrombocytopenia
4. Severe leucopenia
5. Rashes are seen for HME
It is commonly transmitted to human by bite of dog or deer tick.

It cannot be cultured on artificial medium.
Treatment
Doxycycline is the most effective antibiotic for treatment.
