Neutralization test
Some antibodies have the capacity to neutralize their crossponding specific antigen when combine with them.
These antibodies are known as neutralizing antibodies and the reaction is called neutralization.
The antigens which are neutralized may be viruses or toxins.
For example; Schick test (toxin-antitoxin neutralization test)
This toxin- antitoxin neutralization can be measured invitro and invivo.
1. Neutralization invitro
a. Agar gel precipitation test
In diagnosis of Diphtheria.
b. Nagler reaction
In diagnosis of Clostridium perfringens
2. Neutralization invivo
Shick test; skin test used in diphtheria.
