Pityriasis Versicolor
It is superficial chronic fungus infection of epidermis layer.
Normal skin pigmentation is changed in discoloured patches of skin.
Pityriasis Versicolor is caused by overgrowth of yeast on skin.
The infected area patches of skin lighter or darken than surrounding skin.

KOH preparation
Direct microscopic examination of KOH preparation shows cluster of yeast like cells and short branches hyphae.
Culture
It cannot cultured on inanimate media (any media that is not living).
Other diagnostic test
Examine under wood lamp shows yellow Fluorescent colour.
Treatment
Antifungal treatment.
Application of soap and water followed by application of sodium thiosulphate solution.
Miconazole cream and clotrimazole are also effective.
Antifungal, creams, lotion are usually effective.
