Herpes Zoster Virus
Shingles is an infection caused by varicella - zoster virus, which is the same virus that cause chicken pox.
This disease is characterized by red skin rash that can cause pain and burning.
Herpes zoster is reactivation of viruses from previous varicella Infection.
Pathogenesis
It is the disease of old age still it may occur at any age even in newborn.
Appearance of skin eruptions occurs over infected sensory nerve.
The rashes disappears in 2 weeks but pain and paresthesia may persist for months together.
In some cases paralysis with meningoencephalitis.
