Entropion
Entropion is inward turning of the eyelid margin either lower or upper eyelid affected.
In this condition eyelid folds inward and eyelashes and skin rub against the eye surface.
Types of Entropion
1. Congenital entropion
2. Senile entropion
Usually affect lower eyelid in olderly.
3. Mechanical entropion
Due to lack of support of eyelids, lack of orbital fat
4. Cicatricial entropion
Caused due to conjunctival scarring pulling eyelid margin inward toward the eye.
5. Spastic entropion
Spasm of orbicularis due to chronic irritation.
More common in orlder people involves lower eyelids.
Clinical Manifestations
1. Foreign body sensation in eye
2. Eye irritation
3. Pain in eye; opthalmalgia
4. Lacrimation
5. Corneal ulcer/ scarring
6. Sensitivity to light
7. Conjunctival metaplasia (abnormal changes in tissue)
8. Blepharospasm (Eye twitching; abnormal contraction of eyelid muscle)
Management
1. Treatment of Blepharospasm
2. Modified wheelers operation
3. Horizontal lid tightening
4. Eye lubricating ointment
