Subcutaneous Injection
Subcutaneous injection the technique to deliver or
administered medication into the fatty tissue of the subcutaneous tissue,
located below the dermis and epidermis layer of skin.
A subcutaneous injection is administered into the
hypodermis; fatty tissue of the subcutaneous
tissue. It is the innermost layer of skin, located below the dermis and epidermis.
Subcutaneous injection is abbreviated SC, SQ.
Administration
by parenteral routes also include-
1. Intramuscular
route; into the muscle

2. Intravenous
route; in a vein

3. Intradermal route; administer
into the dermis
Subcutaneous Injection Angle
Subcutaneous
injections are usually given at a 45-degree angle and it can be given straight
in at a 90 degree.

Technique to Administer SC injection
In this type of injection, a short needle is used to inject
a drug into the fatty tissue layer between the skin and the muscle.
Lift the 1 and half inch fold of skin between your thumb and
index finger. Inject the medication and skin should be pinched together.

How to Inject the Medication?
1. Pinch your skin.
2. Lift the skin between your thumb and forefinger finger and hold it about one and half inches.
3. This
pulls the fatty tissue away from the muscle and makes easier to the injection.
Site of Administration for Subcutaneous Injection
The most common areas of SC Injection sites are-
1. Arm
Back or side of the upper arm.
2. Abdomen
2-inch area away around the navel, fatty part of the stomach.
3. Thigh
Front of the thigh.
4. Top of the buttocks
Where there is more fat than muscle.
